Scott County put a dam into the channel to Candy Cove in 1942, which is still visible today. Because the Cove supposedly still drained water through its bed, in 1959 the Prior Lake Association and the property owners of Candy Cove decided to seal the cove bottom with bentonite. The residents purchased the bentonite and the Prior Lake Association provided volunteer labor to spread it. Earth moving equipment and operation was also volunteered.
